Walk a little slower …


1. Loud reading of the poem.

2. Put the words given in brackets in the proper blanks.

(a) The is______ talking to its_______.                                   (father / child)
(b) The ______is leading and the ________is following.        (father /child)
(c) Someday the_____ will become a______.                            (father /child)
(d) The____ does not wish to fall while following its____.       (father /child)

Answers-

(a)The child is talking to its father.
(b) The father is leading and the child is following.     
(c) Someday the child will become a father.                          
(d) The child does not wish to fall while following its father .

2. Find and write pairs of rhyming words from the poem.
 (Words that appear at the end of the line.)
Ans-  small-fall,    see-me,   be-me,   true-you

3. The meanings of the words in the following pairs show that they are related


• Daddy/father - child
follow - lead

Find five more pairs of related words -
Examples:

4. The child in the poem requests his father to walk slower. Here, the poet implies that the child wants to understand his father’s actions better.
The child would like to act the same way but wants the father to be more understanding of the child’s needs.


What is implied in the following lines?

(a) Sometimes, your steps are fast...
The child is so young (small) to understand some of the actions of his father. So he wants to understand those things thoroughly from his father under his guidance. But he cannot go with the speed of his father so says that ‘your steps are very fast’.

(b) Sometimes your steps are hard to see...
The father is committing many successful tasks in his daily life. Some of them are very difficult to understand for a child because the child is unknown to the world's many things, these things look very difficult for the child.

(c) I would want to lead just right...
Today when he follows his father, he knows that his father is on the right path only.  And this will lead his future on the right track and right path, which he has learnt from his father.

 (d) And know that I was true.
The child is so sure about the future life where he thinks that he will lead better and virtuous life because today he is learning many right and moral things from his father. It shows the belief of the child in his father.


5. Using your own ideas, frame three sentences that show continuous action.


Example: You are leading me.

1. I am learning English.
2. You were watching T.V.
3. Tomorrow, they will be coming by car.





6. Using your own ideas, frame at least three sentences that show future action or state.
Examples:
• Who’ll (who will) want to follow me.
• When I’m all grown up...

     1.      They will control the crowd.
     2.      Anjali will get the admission. 
     3.      We will learn it thoroughly.
     4.      When I’m all eaten up.


7. Discuss the following and write the summary of your discussion in the form of bullet points.

    (a) How are certain ideas/customs/knowledge
        passed on from one generation to the next?

Ø  Young generations learn/copy many things from their parents or elders.
Ø   They try to follow all these ideas in their life.
Ø  After some time all these things become part of their life.
Ø  Then the new generation tries to get it from their elders.
Ø  The cycle goes on.
   
  
    (b) Is it necessary for children to follow the footsteps of their forefathers? 
             If yes, why?

Ø  Yes, it very necessary for children to follow the footsteps of their forefathers.
Ø   Forefathers/parents/elders show them the right path.
Ø   They can become happy successful and prosperous if they follow the footsteps of their elders. Because elders know more about life.

         Why is it sometimes necessary to change the old ways?
Ø  But sometimes it really necessary to change the old ways to make progress.
Ø   Because   change is very necessary for life.
Ø  Sometimes some outdated things cannot be accepted in the present or future life.
Ø   Example – Some rituals from our religion are really nothing to do with today’s modern world, this must be changed.


8. Do you have a role model? What qualities do you appreciate in your role model?

Answer- Yes, my father is my role model.
      He has many good qualities like – perseverance, hard-working, fearless, humble, 
goal oriented, inspiring, supportive and trustworthy.
      He is always supportive and source of inspiration for me.





9. Think of an occasion when you did not like the decision/actions of your family members but realized later on that they were right. Write about it in 5-8 lines.
Answer:
I got average marks, but still, I wanted to get
 a semi English class. My parents tried to
 tell me the effects of it, but I was not
 in the mood to listen to them.
 Finally, they admitted me in a semi English class.
But when the actual study stared it was very difficult
 for me to cope up with the studies of
science and Mathematics.
